Kaduna NLC Calls For Inclusiveness In The Fight Against Gender Based Violence

The Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC)  Kaduna state chapter has described Gender-Based Violence as preventable and which it said requires stakeholders to work closely together.


The Chairperson of the NLC, Kaduna State, Comrade Ayuba Suleiman stated this while  addressing the NLC's Women Committee, on the commemoration of the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based violence recently in Kaduna.


 Comrade Ayuba called on the governments, organizations and people to speak out against violence in all its forms.

"Violence against women is inevitable, it is preventable", she added.


 "Tell your families, schools, communities, and work places. Together, our message will be amplified, and our voices heard."

"Be supportive: keep yourself, your family and community healthy and protected" 


  The State NLC boss also encouraged the society to "Say no to any form of any form of violence, psychological, sexual or economic violence"

.

He further noted that "convention No.190 and Recommendation No. 206 are the first International labour standards to provide a common framework to prevent, remedy, eliminate violence and harassment in the world of work, including gender- based violence and harassment"


 In her paper presentation during the gathering,Theme; "Invest To Prevent Violence Against Women And Girls." Hajiya Aisha Yahaya Gusau, commended the NLC women wing for making a wisely broadcast on the topic.


  "Because of the need to progress productively in all sphere of human endeavor, NLC also gave equal voice to all Nigerian workers, employers and the governments, it also to defend,protects,and promote and well being, including the interest of Nigerians, inrespective of origin, gender and political belief."


She however explained that, women equally plays a significant roles in community building and often the leadership, described women as the partner, organiser, administrator also involves in all profession, displinarian and the Queen at all the time.


  Earlier in her welcomed addressed, the NLC Kaduna state women committee chairperson, Comrade Martha H.Baki Nok,expressed that, "the rate of rape child battering domestic violence is on the high side, poverty also plays a vital role in this menace on the society."


 She however explained that, "the objectives and promoting a free violence society can be achieved through elaborate sensitization, creating not only punishable action against the offenders, but by ensuring that the culprits were punished severally and openly.


 "More action needed to end violence and psychosocial health violence, women equality and access to descend work, that's why we engaged in joining the 16 days of activism campaigns to end gender based violence in the work space."
