Hunger Protest:- Zamfara APC ,PDP At Logger Head Over Attempted Attacks On Matawalle's Resistance

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau

The Zamfara State chapter of All Progressive Congress  APC  has accused PDP supporters of hijacking a peaceful protest  and giving it a political undertone targeting the APC and its leaders.

Addressing journalists in Gusau, the party's spokesman, Yusuf Idris, said the APC was disturbed by the direction the nationwide supposed peaceful protest took in the state.

"This is because we observed that many PDP thugs were strategically deployed to attack, maim, and destroy personalities and properties of the APC," he added.

According to him, the most disturbing incident occurred on the first day of the protest, Thursday, when known PDP thugs aimed to destroy former governor Bello Matawalle's personal residence. However, security personnel intervened and blocked them.

The spokesman stated that thugs also attacked the residence of Senator Sahabi Yau in his hometown of Kaura Namoda, destroying many valuables and damaging his Toyota Hilux under the guise of a peaceful protest.

He therefore implored security agencies in the state to provide members and all well-meaning citizens the desired protection for their lives and property.

In a swift reaction, the state acting PDP Chairman, Mukhtar Lugga, dismissed the allegation, saying, "It's not time to give the hunger protest a political tune."

Lugga, who is also the Chief of Staff to Governor Dauda Lawal, said there was no need to make such baseless allegations.

According to him, the PDP government never planned to attack anybody, let alone the Minister. He appreciated the efforts of the federal government under President Bola Tinubu to tackle the issue.

"The allegation was baseless and unfounded. This is not a time for politics but rather a period of sober reflection and support for President Tinubu to address the issue at the right time," he added.

He further noted that the PDP government of Dauda Lawal was appreciative of President Tinubu's presidency and prayed for the successful handling of the protest.
