Zamfara State Disengages 109 Contract Teachers, Sets To Recruit 2000 Science Teachers

No fewer than 109 contract teachers in Zamfara state have been disengaged by Zamfara State Teachers Services Board, (ZTSB), following the expiration of their contractual agreement.
This was made known to journalists in Gusau by the board's chairman Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Anka, while reacting to series of complaints by some members of the teachers who were served with disengagement letters.
He said, their disengagement was not intentional, but the fact remained that they refused to renew their contract agreement, and they are still collecting salary.
He stated further that findings by his board revealed that majority of them are not qualified to teach.
The Chairman however revealed that, all arrangements have been concluded by state government to recruit 2,000 qualified indigenes science teachers who will fill the existing gab in teaching process.
According to him, they discovered that they have many young unemployed youth that have degrees, NCE and other teaching related field of studies and they have no alternative than to engage them into teaching processes to be self conscious.
He added that, Zamfara state Teachers Service Board under his stewardship, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the state Universal Basic Education Board are committed to ensure that only qualified teachers teach in all our schools,
Recall that on Wednesday this week some of the affected teachers had an interaction with newsmen in Gusau regarding their disengagement, where they stated that majority of them did not conclude their contractual period and described their disengagement as unfair.
