Red Cross, UNICEF Give Cash Assistance To 7,300 Women, Children, Old Aged Men In Zamfara

No fewer than 7,300 vulnerable children, women and old aged men have today received cash assistance from the Nigerian Red Cross Society and the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Tsafe, Gusau and Shinkafi local government areas of Zamfara State.
In an interview with newsmen shortly after the distribution of the cash to selected beneficiaries, the Secretary General Nigeria Red Cross Society Dr, Abubakar Kende explained that the motive of the cash assistance is to support the vulnerable children and women considering the fact that they can afford their needs .
He said, the cash assistance will support them to start small business and become self reliant.
According to him,the selected beneficiaries would be provided with cash ranging from N28,500 to N114,000 depending the size of the benefiting family, all with a view to alleviate the hardship being thrown into by the lingering security challenges bedeviled their communities.
He said the exercise would continue especially across the most hit communities that can not work on farms and extremely poor to attend to schools, as well as affording the basic health services.
The Secretary General warned the beneficiaries to utilize the financial assistance they have received by ensuring giving priority on their children’s education and facilitate for their hospital attendance when the need arises.
He however hinted that, the in due course the program will touch other local government, as according to him even last year they gave the same gesture to selected vulnerable women and children in Zamfara State.
