Zamfara State Ministry of Health Holds Key Meeting to Boost Primary Healthcare

The Zamfara State Ministry of Health, led by Commissioner Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, has held the First Quarter 2025 State Oversight Committee (SOC) meeting of the 2-Gate ways to strengthen primary healthcare service delivery in the state.
The meeting, which took place on May 2, 2025, at the Ministry's conference hall, brought together key stakeholders to discuss implementation challenges affecting the Basic Health Care Provision Funds (BHCPF) and explore ways to improve healthcare outcomes.
According to the Ministry, the SOC has the mandate to ensure effective and efficient utilization of BHCPF funds by Primary Health Care facilities and optimal quality service delivery to beneficiaries through the NPHCDA 2-Gate Ways.
During the meeting, Dr. Maradun called on stakeholders to collaborate in achieving the committee's mandate and supporting the state's rescue mission agenda on health. She appreciated the support of health partners and emphasized the need for collective efforts to improve healthcare delivery.
The meeting discussed various implementation challenges and proposed solutions, including strategies to secure 25% counterpart funding from state and local governments and update the committee on BHCPF Phase II.
The committee was adjourned to July to follow up on actionable points not achieved, with a commitment to ensuring efficient accountability mechanisms through effective supervision.
The development underscores the Zamfara State government's commitment to improving healthcare delivery and outcomes for its citizens.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Health, Local Government Commission, National Primary Health Care Board, Account General Office, Auditor General, ZAMCHEMA National Health Insurance Agency, Developmental Partners, and other relevant agencies.
