Zamfara Prioritizes Health, Boosts PHC Efforts
By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau
Zamfara State is prioritizing public health through strong collaboration and a commitment to revitalizing its healthcare system.
This was the key message from Monday's meeting of the State Taskforce Committee on Primary Health Care System, led by Deputy Governor Malam Mummuni Masamar Mudi.
The gathering provided an opportunity to review past successes and challenges immunization campaigns and primary healthcare services.
Deputy Governor Masamar Mudi emphasized that vaccination remains a "crucial health intervention," vital for preventing diseases that continue to affect communities across the state.
He acknowledged the significant public health challenges Zamfara faced in the past but credited the current administration's effective strategies for recent achievements.
A core principle of the state's approach is strengthening partnerships. "The success of any primary Health care relies on the synergy between the Government, Traditional and Religious Leaders, Civil Society Organizations, and our development partners," Masamar Mudi explained.
This collaborative spirit extends to infrastructure, with the state having approved the revitalization of all primary healthcare facilities, in addition to the 62 already undergoing renovation through the Impact Project.
Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, Zamfara State Commissioner of Health, highlighted the importance of collective effort.
"Our progress is a direct result of our ability to work hand-in-hand with our communities and partners," Maradun stated.
"We must sustain this momentum to ensure every citizen has access to the comprehensive care they deserve."
The Taskforce Committee's primary Health care objective remains clear: to achieve widespread immunization coverage for all vaccine-preventable diseases, with particular attention to polio and measles campaigns.
Deputy Governor Masamar Mudi assured the committee of the state government's "full support and commitment," expressing confidence that their combined efforts would lead to success.
The meeting also included remarks from Dr. Husaini Yakubu Anka, Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Board, who extended gratitude to supporting partners.
The World Health Organization (WHO) Zamfara State State Coordinator, Dr Raji, also offered valuable guidance to the Taskforce Committee emphasising on accountability to ensure sustained improvements on health indicators in the state from investments by government and partners.
The statement was signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau by Suleiman Isah, ANIPR Information Officer
Zamfara State Ministry of Health.
