Zamfara State To Collaborate With Sightsavers To Provide Hydrocele Surgeries

The Zamfara State Ministry of Health in collaboration with Sightsavers are working together to provide hydrocele surgery across the state.

Their goal is to perform 100 successful hydrocelectomy operations in Zamfara's 14 local government areas under the Reaching the Last Mile Project (RLM) under Sightsavers.

In addition to previously trained Doctors in the state, Sightsavers is set to sponsor the training of additional 5 Medical directors from Anka, Bukuyum, Birnin Magaji, Zurmi and Gusau LGA on new technique of hydrocelectomy surgery. 

This training aims to help to update the knowledge and skills of the surgeons and that will lead to high-quality operations, better healthcare and improved patient results.

Governor Dauda Lawal has also focused on improving healthcare. 

The state has renovated general hospitals and offered medical outreach programs. More than 3,000 people have received hydrocele and other surgical interventions to patients in need for free.

The government has also paid allowances to medical students, lab technicians and pharmacists.

Health Commissioner Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, who was represented by the Executive Secretary Zamfara State Hospitals Service Management Board, Mustapha Marafa praised Sightsavers for supporting the program in the state and confirms this is in line with the present administration of Governor Lawal in providing qualitative and affordable healthcare to the people of Zamfara  especially in helping women and children. 

She said the state is dedicated to lowering maternal and newborn death rates.

Ahmed Ibrahim, Sightsavers program  Coordinator supporting the control and elimination of Neglected Tropical Diseases in Zamfara said the organization has for long contributed towards reducing the suffering  of  those with elephantiasis, eye problems and hydrocele.

He assured Zamfara State communities that they would continue to offer their contributions tirelessly.

Finally, the NTD coordinator praised the Zamfara State Ministry of Health and the entire state government for their cooperation with the NTD program, which has led to its successful operations.
