Zamfara Health Officials Plan For Better Care

The Zamfara State Ministry of Health and the Zamfara State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (ZAMCHEMA) held a planning meeting today for the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF). 

The July 19 meeting, at ZAMCHEMA's conference hall, focused on the first quarter 2025 enrollee town hall meetings.

The goal is to inform potential beneficiaries, gather service quality feedback, and identify challenges for better decision-making.

Dr. Iliyasu Saleh Ahmed, Executive Secretary/CEO of ZAMCHEMA, welcomed attendees. He highlighted the current administration's commitment to improving the health sector, noting ZAMCHEMA has taken full ownership of this activity.

Malan Abdullahi Mande Gusau, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, outlined key objectives. These include reintroducing the town hall concept to local government teams, discussing how to conduct meetings at BHCPF facilities, and identifying challenges with solutions.

Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, Honorable Commissioner of Health, was represented by Permanent Secretary, Malan Bashir Surajo Gusau.

He commended efforts to improve healthcare through facility upgrades, workforce development, medicine availability, and capacity building.

The Permanent Secretary stressed accountability, professionalism, and excellence, warning against mediocrity. Performance will be closely monitored. 

He also emphasized the need for community participation and stakeholder collaboration.

The Commissioner also praised Dr. Ahmed for timely payments to BHCPF facilities and effective quality assurance.

A representative from the PHC Directors forum assured the Commissioner of their readiness to improve healthcare, despite past bottlenecks.

The meeting concluded with the Commissioner directing Dr. Ahmed to ensure development of a plan by LGA teams to track the enrollee town hall meetings. She charged all stakeholders to ensure milestones are achieved.
