GOVERNOR DAUDA RECRUITING CRIMINAL WRITERS, WHAT GOES AROUND....A REJOINDER BY YUSUF IDRIS GUSAU
Politics is supposed to be for the betterment and benefit of the governed by the government, without bitterness to the detriment of the people while the government continues as a process with the aim of achieving the above for the good of all.
It is however unfortunate that when you takeover the mantle of leadership and refuse to continue with the process of governance that problems set in and when you are power drunk, the leeches come sucking, making you believe that they can change how you have disappointed the people to them appraising you when actually, time has evaded you.
This is the situation of Zamfara State governor, Dauda Lawal especially as highlighted through the just concluded Kaura Namoda South State House of Assembly bye election in which the APC, though in opposition, gave the ruling PDP a good run for its money through a wide, incontestible margin, leaving the PDP grasping for breath by apportioning blames on either the governor not carrying the party members along or giving some outsiders too much leverage or poor and uncoordinated party leadership or alleged security personnel unfair treatment, but of all these, not a single voice challenged the fact that the APC won, otherwise, the PDP would have been in court, perhaps using Zamfara State money with contributions from the PDP governors forum which also held its 102nd meeting on the heels of the election in Zamfara and shed tears over the party's lost.
As an afterthought however, the government in its now traditional conny ways, wants to bury its shameless face behind the media, unfortunately starting on a wrong footing by using a criminal writer who couldn't even disclose his identity but used pen name, Yusuf Alkali AbdurRahman to flank the PDP's biting fingers in a writeup codenamed 'Military and Democracy in Nigeria:..' and so on which fell dead on arrival for lack of enthusiasm by readers who are well informed about why the PDP candidate could not make it to the state legislative.
Every political party has its strategies to win elections and had the PDP won the last bye-election, it would have been beating its chest in further condemning the APC and calling it (APC) names as the PDP is well known for, but because it lost, it has squirmed to a corner of the house thinking of what treachery to apply next.
Then came the money mongering Yusuf Alkali who couldn't find anywhere to place his fauls but on the security and especially, the army to cast aspersions on the APC which has the central government and the power to deploy.
What Alkali refused to say is, the preparations by his pay masters to infiltrate the whole exercise with armed thugs who were seen welding guns and other weapons, and as if those would not be enough it was gathered that they would use some armed bandits who they have been harbouring for such purposes. It is a known fact that the Commissioner of Police had to immediately invite members of the press on the night preceding the election to seriously warn against deploying the miscreants, and even at that, some of them showed their ugly faces including hiding in the official convoy of the deputy governor who was not supposed to be there because it is not his local government and some of them were arrested including some governor's aides, why the accidental writer did not mention these can only be interpreted as earning his pay.
Similarly, why didn't they explain why PDP thugs alongside disguised state government owned security watch outfit and some of their ugly collaborators drawn from the imported Maiduguri Civilian JTF who fired gunshots at the police and other security personnel but for the professional handling of the matter by the Kaduna Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Rabiu who also monitored the recovery of over 200 bullet shells, the encounter would have been bloody.
The unpatriotic Yusuf Alkali who believe only America can come and solve our political issues, did not mention how the state government that consistently refused to give assistance to bandits attack victims released over N2 billion for the bye-election, they must account for all their sins.
Even in the unpatriotic Yusuf's writeup, he also contradicted himself by exposing the governor's high handedness by calling on him to "broaden inclusivity..., address infrastructural neglect," among others.
On a lighter mood however, and not saying that the APC used any part of the security, has the PDP forgotten that it used two serving and retired army generals and lots of corrupt soldiers to forcibly seize power in the state from the APC and its government in 2023, it should rather be thankful for the prevention of innocent people's bloodshed courtesy of the deployment of adequate security personnel, the action that stopped both the bandits and other criminally arranged thugs by the PDP to scuttle the election if it wasn't going in their favour.
The governor and his yes men must have a rethink to fully address public concerns in the state.
Yusuf Gusau is the Zamfara state APC Publicity Secretary.
