Red Cross Distributes Seedlings, Farm Tools To 2000 Rural Women In Zamfara

Nigeria Red Cross society in Collaboration with International Federation Of Red Cross, with the support of chechslovakian republic have secured a funds to support 2000 rural women in Zamfara State. 

The support rendered to them include seedlings and farm tools and are expected that they will use the seeds in making backyard garden for those women to use them in making their food nutrition.

Speaking during the colourful ceremony in Wanke district of Gusau local government, the wife of Zamfara State governor Hajiya Huriyya Dauda advised women who benefited from the gesture to use them judiciously.

 She informed them that the present government under the watch of her husband is doing everything possible to carry women along.

 The first lady who spoke through the commissioner of agriculture emphasized that she has so many plans to uplift the standard of the women in the state.

In an interview with newsmen shortly after the ceremony, the Zamfara State red cross office coordinator Ibrahim Bello said, this is the second component which is the disaster risk reduction and part of it includes tree planting.

He said so far, they distributed 2000 seedlings to these rural women and are expected to plant them in their homes.

"As you can see these are the seeds and farm tools, and are going to be used in the house as a backyard farming for these women to use them in making their food nutrition.

"Apart from teaching tom brown, they now have vegetables like tomatoes and so on, which they can also augment  in getting nutrition to their children, so this is basically what we are doing now." He concluded

According to him,  five local government areas comprising of Gusau, Bungudu, Birnin Magaji, Maradun and Zurmi, were selected to benefit from the program, adding that Zamfara state was among states in the Federation identified to have suffering with hunger on particularly small children.
