The Zamfara State Ministry of Health opened a crucial three-day meeting to review and validate the draft 2026 Health Sector Annual Operational Plan (AOP), which officials called the state's "contract with the people."

The meeting, held at Emerald Suites, gathered state health leaders, representatives from the Federal Ministry of Health, the SWAp Coordination Office, and development partners like the World Health Organization (WHO), to scrutinize the proposed activities, targets, and budget for the coming year.

Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, the Honorable Commissioner for Health, emphasized the weight of the task in her opening address.

"This
AOP is far more than a document to be filed away," Dr. Maradun said.

"It is the tangible expression of our promise to the mother anticipating a safe delivery, to the child awaiting immunization. This plan is the bridge between our ambitious goals and the lived reality of our citizens."

She urged participants to use the forum as an "engineering room" to "stress-test every assumption, scrutinize every target," challenging them to ensure the plan has the courage, precision, and synergy needed for transformation.

Permanent Secretary Malam Bashiru Surajo Gusau. NIPPS Ambassador of Leadership and Integrity echoed the call for rigorous engagement.

"This gathering is not merely a meeting; it is a strategic convergence of minds," Malam Bashir said, underscoring that the plan is the "bedrock upon which our healthcare delivery for the coming year will be built."

He stressed the importance of ensuring the plan addresses pressing state-specific needs, from maternal health to infectious and non-communicable diseases.

The validation exercise aims to align the AOP with state policies, confirm the feasibility of budget allocations, and harmonize contributions from all stakeholders.

Its goals include identifying implementation gaps and agreeing on a clear roadmap with monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for 2026.

The WHO State Coordinator Dr. Raji, represented by the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Dr. Musbau Adekunle Yahaya, reaffirmed the commitment of all partners to supporting the Zamfara state government's efforts.

Dr. Maradun officially declared the validation meeting open, concluding: "Let our deliberations be rigorous, our outcomes be brilliant, and our collective spirit be unwavering."

The statement was signed and issued to newsmen in Gusau by Suleiman Isah, ANIPR, Public Relation Officer Ministry of Health
