Zamfara First Lady Kicks Off Massive Child Vaccine Drive, Targets 10,000 Settlements

The First Lady of Zamfara State,Hajiya Huriya Dauda Lawal announced a sweeping effort Saturday to protect children, detailing plans to reach over 10,000 settlements with vaccines against polio, measles, and rubella.

Speaking at a media dialogue supported by UNICEF, Lawal said the drive aims to boost immunization coverage and reduce vaccine preventable diseases. 1,200 vaccination teams will be deployed across the state’s 147 wards. 

The integrated campaign covers specific age ranges: Polio vaccine is for children 0 to 59 months; Routine Immunization (RI) is for those 0 to 23 months; and the measles rubella vaccine targets children 9 months to 14 years old.

Hajiya Huriyya urged public acceptance, calling on religious leaders to preach the importance of vaccination.

The PHCB Executive Secretary, Dr. Hussaini Yakubu Anka, who represented the First Lady commended the Ministry of Health and recognized continued support from UNICEF, WHO, AFENET, e-Health, Solina, Chigari foundation, Ace, Sultan Foundation and other development partners.

He however called on the media personnel to continue supporting the program as they are the partners in progress
