ZMSG TRAINS 50 NURSES, MIDWIVES ON MATERNAL AND CHILD MORTALITY

Autonomy: FG Wins Against State Governors

The Federal Government of Nigeria and the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) have won the case against the state governors over the financial autonomy from the Local Government joint account. Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court delivered the ruling on Monday in favour of the Federal Government. The NFIU had in June 2019 issued guidelines aimed at curbing crime vulnerabilities created by cash withdrawals from local government accounts by various state governments. The Nigerian Governors Forum sued the FG and NFIU for interfering with state government powers to initiate transactions on Local Government Joint accounts citing provisions of the 1999 constitution. The NFIU issued a guideline on money laundering risk and vulnerabilities advising all banks not to honour transactions from joint accounts. Maternal death: 950,000 Zamfara women at high risk

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau  About 950,000 women in Zamfara on high risk of maternal death, the Executive Secretary, State Hospital Services Management Board, Mustafa Marafa has said. Marafa disclosed this in Gusau on Monday while speaking with Journalists at the opening ceremony of a Five-day workshop on preventable maternal deaths for health workers in the state. The training was organized by an NGO "Health for Life Foundation"  in collaboration with State Ministry of Health and Hospital Services Management Board. The training being supported by the United Nations Population Funds (UNFPA). Marafa who represented state Commissioner of Health, Dr Aisha Anka at the event said Nigeria records 14 percent of the total maternal death globally. He noted that the Northern Nigeria including Zamfara has a record of 70 percent of maternal death in Nigeria. Scholarship Initiative:- Yari Sets To Sponsor 1700 Zamfara Indigens

Abdulaziz Yari set to grants full scholarship to 1700 qualified students to study at various universities in the country. This was made known to journalists in Gusau by the chairman Abudulazi Yari scholarships initiative committee, Sen. Tijjani Yahaya Kaura at a Press conference. He said, 100 qualified students will be selected from each local government from Zamfara central and north senatorial zones, while 150 students will be selected from Zamfara west senatorial district where Sen Abdulaziz Yari is representing. According to the committee chairman, each student will be paid all his study fees for the duration of the course and accommodation, adding that each student will be given monthly allowance for him to study with ease.   The Zamfara based Non Governmental Organization (NGO), Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) conducted diolgue with community leaders and security agents on access to justice, peace and accountability. The dialogue took place at Birnin Magaji, Nasarawa Godel, Tsafe and Bilbis community had participants from security agencies, community and religious leaders, Civil Society Organizations and Community-Based Organizations among others. The event was conducted with support from International NGO, "the International Alert" under the project "Promoting Stability, Access to Justice and Accountability in the North West region of the country". The project is being implemented in Kaduna and Zamfara States. The activity: "Community Engagement with Security Agencies on Security Priorities Issues and Building Partnership to Ensure Effective Oversight and Accountability". Gov, Lawal Flags Off Construction Of Gusau International Airport, Vows To Rescue Zamfara

On Thursday, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace, Festus Keyamo, officially launched the construction works for the Gusau International Airport. A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, said the Gusau Airport project is intended to be a smart airport designed to accommodate domestic and international flights. According to him, the airport project will include the construction of a 3.4-kilometer primary runway suitable for large commercial aircraft, installation of runway lighting, and navigational aids. Zamfara Gov't Begins Payment Of Minimum Wage, Settles June Salary Ahead Of Eid Celebration

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau  Governor Dauda Lawal has commenced the payment of the 30 thousand naira minimum wage to Zamfara civil servants. Last month, the governor announced in a meeting with the leadership of the Zamfara State chapter of the labour union that he would begin paying minimum wage in June. In a statement issued on Friday in Gusau, the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that Zamfara civil servants started receiving their June salary on the 12th, ahead of the Eidil Adha celebration. He added that the state government had fulfilled its pledge to pay workers the minimum wage, which was reflected in the already-paid June salary. “The Zamfara state government, led by Governor Dauda Lawal, has disbursed the June salary to support workers in preparing for the upcoming Eid celebration. “This is in line with the fulfilment of the promise made by the governor last month to implement the 30 thousand naira minimum wage. 13 Years Owed Gratuities:- We Have Paid Zamfara Retirees Over N5 Billion In Five Batches, Says Gov, Lawal

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau  Governor Dauda Lawal has paid off more than Five Billion Naira in a 13-year backlog of gratuities for retired Zamfara civil servants. The Zamfara State Government began paying the outstanding gratuities in February to State and Local Government workers after retirees were authenticated and validated. In a statement issued on Sunday, the spokesperson for the Zamfara governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the state government paid 5,347,243,210.00 gratuities to state and local government retirees.
