Zamfara Health Officials Plan For Better Care

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau The Zamfara State Ministry of Health and the Zamfara State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (ZAMCHEMA) held a planning meeting today for the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF).  The July 19 meeting, at ZAMCHEMA's conference hall, focused on the first quarter 2025 enrollee town hall meetings. The goal is to inform potential beneficiaries, gather service quality feedback, and identify challenges for better decision-making. Dr. Iliyasu Saleh Ahmed, Executive Secretary/CEO of ZAMCHEMA, welcomed attendees. He highlighted the current administration's commitment to improving the health sector, noting ZAMCHEMA has taken full ownership of this activity. Zamfara State to Validate Nutrition Strategy

 By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau  Zamfara State is set to validate a new strategy to combat severe malnutrition, which affects an estimated 250,000 children in the state. With support from UNICEF, relevant stakeholders in Zamfara State, including the Ministry of Health, State Primary Healthcare Board, ministry of planning and budget, CSOs, community leaders, and the academia convened a  meeting to finalize the Nutrition Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) Strategy.  The strategy aims to improve maternal infant and young child and adolescent nutrition, dietary practices, challenge negative socio-cultural norms, and reduce malnutrition rates.  It builds on previous efforts, including the National Nutrition SBC strategy and utilized evidence from a formative research supported by UNICEF on key barriers and enablers to optimal nutrition practices. MSF Launches Emergency Measles Vaccination Campaign in Zurmi, Zamfara State

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in collaboration with Zamfara state Ministry of Health and Zurmi Local Government Area (LGA) has launched an emergency measles vaccination campaign in Zurmi LGA, This follows an increase in the number of children suffering from the disease that has already claimed the lives of 24 children this year, most of the children who died were under five years old and had not been vaccinated. The six-day campaign, which began today, Tuesday  8 July, is targeting children between the ages of 6 months and 5 years, the goal is to stop the spread of measles quickly and prevent more deaths. During the campaign, MSF teams will also check children for signs of malnutrition using a simple arm measurement (MUAC) and refer those who are undernourished to nearby health centres for treatment. I've Paid N13.6 Billion Backlog Of Inherited Gratuity Owed To Zamfara Retirees Since 2011, Says Gov, Lawal

By Aminu Abdullahi Gusau  Governor Dauda Lawal expressed satisfaction in paying N13,944,039,204.64 in gratuities owed to Zamfara pensioners from 2011 to 2023. On Tuesday, the governor inaugurated the Contributory Pension Implementation Committee and received a report from the Joint Committees on the payment of the backlog of gratuities at the Government House in Gusau. A statement by the spokesperson for the governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, disclosed that clearing the backlog of unpaid gratuities and pensions accumulated from 2011 to 2023 is one of the key achievements of the administration. The statement added that 3,824 beneficiaries from the State Service received N7,960,162,598.64, while 4,833 from the Unified Local Government Service were verified and paid N5,983,876,606 in backlog gratuities.
