Zamfara State Disengages 109 Contract Teachers, Sets To Recruit 2000 Science Teachers

This was made known to journalists in Gusau by the board's chairman Alhaji Aliyu Muhammad Anka, while reacting to series of complaints by some members of the teachers who were served with disengagement letters. He said, their disengagement was not intentional, but the fact remained that they refused to renew their contract agreement, and they are still collecting salary. He stated further that findings by his board revealed that majority of them are not qualified to teach. The governor approved the commencement of the payment of the backlog of gratuities in February this year. In a statement issued in Gusau on Saturday, the governor's spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, revealed that the government had paid retired state workers N4,860,613,699.22 in nine batches. The statement added that a total sum of N4,497,129,582.13 has been settled for the local government workers.
